Severe weather continues to wreak havoc across Texas as torrential rains have triggered widespread flooding, leaving a path of destruction in multiple counties. Entire communities are submerged, roads have collapsed or become impassable, and emergency services are stretched thin as they work tirelessly to rescue stranded residents and deliver aid.

The worst-affected areas include parts of Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, where rainfall over the past 48 hours has exceeded 12 inches in some locations. The National Weather Service issued flash flood emergencies in several regions, warning residents to move to higher ground immediately. Rivers and bayous have overflowed, and low-lying neighborhoods have turned into lakes almost overnight.

In Harris County, dozens of homes have been flooded up to their rooftops, prompting hundreds of evacuations. Footage from the ground shows cars floating down submerged streets and families wading through waist-high water carrying pets and essential belongings. Emergency shelters have been set up in schools and churches, but many are already nearing capacity.

“We’ve never seen flooding this fast or this bad,” said Laura Martinez, a local resident in Fort Bend County. “In just a few hours, everything was underwater. We lost everything.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of emergency in the hardest-hit regions and has deployed the Texas National Guard for rescue operations. Swift-water rescue teams have saved over 500 people since the onset of the flooding, according to emergency management officials.

The storm system responsible for this deluge is expected to linger for at least another day, with forecasters warning that additional rainfall could exacerbate the crisis. Already swollen rivers such as the Brazos and Colorado are at risk of breaching levees, raising concerns of further flooding downstream.

Power outages, contaminated water supplies, and blocked highways are further complicating relief efforts. Local authorities are urging residents to remain indoors unless evacuation is mandatory and to avoid attempting to drive through floodwaters.

As Texas braces for more rain, the long road to recovery is only beginning. For many families, the focus now is on survival — and hope that the waters will recede before they lose even more.

Let’s come together and keep all the missing children in our
thoughts and prayers during this desvastation. 🙏
